Two days after former beauty queen Aishwarya Rai wed India's most eligible bachelor Abhishek Bachchan in a flamboyant ceremony dubbed the "wedding of the century'' by the Indian media, the couple flew to a temple town in southern India on Sunday.

Television channels were flooded with images of the couple, both sets of parents and several close friends and relatives entering the famous Tirumala temple in Tirupati, in southern Andhra Pradesh state.

Exiting Wedding Function

The wedding day was 20th April 2007. On that day of the wedding, the baraat left from "Jalsa" to move towards the venue of the wedding, "Prateeksha" at 4 pm. Jalsa and Prateeksha both are Bachchan's Bungalows. The guests were taken by the special bus. On the way Abhishek Bachchan got off from the bus and climbed on a beautifully decorated white horse. Abhishek Bachchan was wearing a clear white outfit filled with beautiful hand work. His face was covered with the traditional style of flowers. Abhishek was weaving hand to the bystanders on the way to Prateeksha with traditional wedding band and dancers. Abhi’s sister Shweta was also seen gyrating with the baraatis while father Amitabh Bachchan was supervising the entire event.
The baraatis reached the venue and the mahurat for the wedding which was 5.30 pm on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya, which is a best day to have Hindu Weddings. The wedding ceremony began behind the close doors With high security measures both in and around the house. There were more than 400 security personal on duty. Heavy traffic was experienced as the baraat was en route; fans were running and pushing for a glimpse of stars. Media people with line of cameras too were capturing all the possible actions.

The Mehendi Ceremony

The 19th of April 2007 was Mehendi day, which was held at Aishwarya Rai's home. As for the Indian tradition, mehendi or henna is given to the bride by the groom’s family to apply in ways of beautiful tattoos on her hands and feet. This ceremony is used to take place at the bride’s residence before the wedding. The Mehendi ceremony at Aishwarya Rai's residence was a private one with only close relatives from the bride’s family. Abhishek’s sister Shweta, actress Sonali and some members of the Bachchan family arrived in a bus for the Mehendi ceremony in the evening. The mehendi was specially brought from Sojat which is in Rajasthan. The ceremony nearly lasted for 3 hours. Aishwarya wore a red and gold sari specially designed by Nita Lulla.

A Much Awaited function of the Couple

The much-awaited wedding of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai will take place on April 20. It will be a small family affair. The young couple will wed at 6:30 pm at Jalsa, Bachchan's residence in Mumbai.

Incidentally, the Bachchans wanted the wedding to take place on April 19 but the day -- called Bharani Krittika -- is considered inauspicious for the Rais, due to the placement of the stars. The sangeet will take place on April 18 at Jalsa, while the mehendi will take place the next day at Ash's residence, La Mer, in Bandra. The wedding may be a huge affair for the film industry, but the Bachchans hope to keep it small as Amitabh Bachchan's mother Teji is in hospital. They will invite a small number of people like family, Amar Singh and the Ambanis. The Rais will invite only 25-30 guests from their side. The reception will take place in June, in Mumbai.

Aishwarya and Abhishek's Engagement

After months of speculation, Bollywood's most talked about couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai finally got engaged in Mumbai on Sunday (January 14).

The engagement ceremony took place at Bachchan's Mumbai residence, Jalsa, between 8.30 p.m. and 9 p.m soon after the couple returned from the premiere of their latest film Guru in Toronto and New York.

Confirmation of this came from none other than Abhishek's father, film icon Amitabh Bachchan, at whose residence here the engagement took place.

"The children have decided. We are very happy and thought we should go ahead with the ‘roka’ ceremony. It was held in the evening," Amitabh Bachchan was quoted as saying.

Among those present were Amitabh Bachchan, his wife Jaya Bachchan, the family's close friend and Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh, Aishwarya's parents, and industrialist Anil Ambani with his wife Tina Ambani.

The engagement came nearly one-and-half months after Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Rai, accompanied by Amitabh and Jaya, offered prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Sankatmochan Temple in Varanasi on November 26, heightening speculation about a marriage between the younger Bachchan and the actress.

There had been considerable speculation in the media about marriage between Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai, but neither family had confirmed it before the engagement ceremony last evening.

However, there was no immediate word on the wedding date, industry sources said, adding Abhishek popped the question after the international premiere in Toronto Friday of Bollywood film "Guru" featuring the duo in the lead roles.

Speaking to reporters at Toronto, Aishwarya, a former Miss World, had earlier pleaded with them not to jump to conclusions about her relationship with Abhishek, saying an announcement would be made at the appropriate time.

The Truth behind Aishwarya – Abhishek Marriage

Well, in this case Abhishek was missing in action (he was away shooting) and J.P. Dutta had obviously decided that papa would have to pay the penalty. Amitabh was a good substitute for his son and looked comfortable in the company of the ravishing Rai. The buzz is that it's only a matter of time before its baat pakki with Abhishek and Aishwarya, but till things are official between the golden couple they're decided not to make too many “together” appearances in public!. In the absence of his beta at ‘Umrao Jaan' music release party, Amitabh Bachchan was the main attraction in the gala evening. Bachchan however preferred to watch from the sideline even as the lensers tried to coax him to come into the frame with J.P. Dutta, lyricist-poet Javed Akhtar, Aishwarya Rai, Shabana Azmi and guest of honor Lata Mangeskar when the CD was being unveiled. Bachchan in fact frankly admitted that he didn't know how he was doing there. Reminded one of the young days when on missing school, our parents would get a call from the headmaster to show up with a good explanation.

Aish will play moll to Abishek's don in Sarkar

We first saw them together in the item song in Shaad Ali's Bunty Aur Babli. Now Amitabh, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai are being teamed together by Ram Gopal Varma in his sequel to Sarkar.

Says Ramu, "Yes, it's true that Aishwarya has agreed to be a part of Sarkar 2. We only need to work out her dates. She'll play the lead opposite Abhishek." Despite their not-so-memorable pairing (Kuch Na Kahon and Dhai Akshar Prem Ke) in the past, the couple do look compatible in the promotional clippings of J.P. Dutta's Umrao Jaan. "I don't think that's the primary motivation for my casting Aishwarya. I've been meaning to work with her for some time. But the vehicle has to be worthy of her presence. I did approach her on a few occasions earlier. But things didn't work out. I'm glad we are working together finally."
